[Daisy cups the side of his face, moving her head back just enough to be able to look at him. Thumb stroking his cheek, Daisy admits…]

You mean so much to me.

[ He sweeps his thumb against her waist, lifting his other hand to her cheek. ]

So do you.

[ His thoughts turn to her first over anyone else. There is no one left to wait for him at home. ]

It will be difficult to let go when the day of parting comes.

[ His brow furrows, recalling her words regarding her regret. ]

But you will have your mother again. You will be going back to happiness.

[ And so he'll be able to release her from his embrace when the time comes. ]

[Tears well up in her eyes again at the mention of her mother. She's never forgotten why she agreed to be here, but she's grown to care about people here. Especially him.]

But I won't have you.

[ His returning smile is sad. ]

No.

[ He presses a kiss to her forehead. ]

And I won't have you.

[Lower lip trembling when he kisses her forehead, Daisy swallows the knot forming in her throat.]

I don’t want to lose you.

I know.

[ Echoing her earlier words. ]

I don't want that either.

I thought we’d at least be together for the last mission.

[That hurt her the most, even more than the powered people being isolated.]

I thought we'd be too. This is...

[ He sighs. ]

More than disappointing. Practically unbearable. Even last mission we found ways to see each other.

I know.

[Daisy says softly, smoothing her hand over his hair.]

We’ll find a way to see each other. I don’t care if I have to go through sand storms.

[ He gives a weak laugh at her admission. ]

Not on my account. We will talk to each other until we can see each other.

[Daisy smiles sadly at his suggestion.]

I know we need to focus on the mission, but I don't know how easy that will be this time around.

[Daisy admits, fingertips trailing along the nape of his neck.]

And yet we cannot allow ourselves to fail. Not after everything we've seen.

[ Not after seeing into the lives of the former crew. ]

We are strong. I know we can do it.

[She knows he's right, which is why she nods before pressing her forehead to his. There's more she wants to say, but she's not sure she can bring herself to say it.]

[ He isn't about to break the silence either, because there's really nothing else left to say. Instead he just holds her quietly for a long time. ]

[In all honesty, Daisy doesn't remember even falling asleep but eventually shes opening her eyes again to find herself laying next to Joric.]

[ It's time well spent in his mind. Though he doesn't fall asleep as soon as she does, he's lightly dozing by the time she awakens. His lips are parted and he's breathing deeply, but not quite snoring. ]

[Daisy stares at him for a moment, smiling at first but it quickly fades when she remembers all over again just how limited their time is together. Stroking her fingers through his hair gently, Daisy scoots closer to kiss his cheek.]

[ He makes a mild humming sound and breaths in deep through his nose before his arm tightens around her. ]

That nap was unintended.

[Daisy smiles sleepily at him tucking his hair behind his ear.]

It was, but it was nice.

[She checks the time,]

Did you have plans for the rest of the day?

Getting back to my projects.

[ He wipes the sleep from his face and moves to sit up, gesturing towards the dresser where his woodcarving supplies lie. ]

[Daisy isn't so quick to get up, and instead continues to lay there next to him. She could easily fall back to sleep right now, but she won't. They have such limited time together.]

Can I watch you work?

[ It's surprising to hear and he shifts to look back at her lounging on the bed. ]

I suppose so, but it's not very exciting.

[ He goes to grab some of what he needs before hooking a foot around the leg of his armchair and dragging it closer to the bed and seating himself. He has a wood block with only a few bits carvings down and he leans forward to carve more curls of wood away and onto his floor. ]

This one's for Wei Wuxian. I'll attempt to make the giant Cubit we rode on together.

[She smiles up at him when he agrees to let her watch him work. Even once he’s sitting in his chair, Daisy is still laying down. Turning onto her side, she watches him as wood shavings fall to the floor.]

You rode on a cubit?

[ A smile spreads across his face and he nods. ]

I couldn't turn down an opportunity to fly. He used magic to help me stay on and I was wary of it at first, but he sensed I was and was patient with me. A convenient way to travel.

[Her tired smile grows. She loves his crooked smile.]

Yeah, it is. I’m surprised the cubit let you two on it.
